My students are from a very low socioeconomic background. Over 90% of the children at this school receive free or reduce lunch. Farm to Kids is an organization that donates vegetables for our students so they don't go hungry on the weekends. Many families live 2 or 3 families in a 1 bedroom apt. Many of my students don't sleep in a bed of their own. This year I have 6 homeless students in my classroom. The parents in this community work very hard just to provide the basic needs for their kids. My students struggle out of school so for them, our school means a safe place to be themselves and learn without worries. I feel that my students deserve the same opportunities that students in a more affluent community so I am trying to provide materials and lessons that will address the needs of an ever changing technological world. As well as make them aware that they have the same opportunities as other children to go to college, be successful and have a great future!
