I teach in a high-poverty school in rural Illinois. Over half of our students cannot pay for basic needs like school lunches, food and medical care. Many do not have books at home and come from families that do not value reading at home. I want to change this generation, one class at a time, by getting them excited about reading in their first experience at school! I believe our school houses some of the finest teachers and administrators you'll ever find. We do the best we can with what we have, but we are still recovering from a massive flood that wiped out our entire library and many other valuable classroom resources three years ago. Many books were lost, and a Nook color is one way to replace some of those valuable resources in a new, innovative way.

About my class
