I want to purchase career costumes, props for restaurant, veterinarian and mail carrier center sets. I also want to make my pretend center feel like a real home. These materials will enhance the Pretend learning center by fostering their imagination. Where can you find police officers, veterinarians, office workers, princesses, karate instructors, and chefs all happily working side-by-side? In a dramatic play area of a classroom, of course. A child’s pretend play in classrooms or at home is often considered fun and imaginative, but with limited educational value. The truth is, in the midst of creating a restaurant together, clomping around in grown-up shoes, or twirling around with friends in a fairytale land, children are learning to solve problems, coordinate, cooperate, and think flexibly. I have chosen career costumes so the children can dress up and pretend to be community workers. I have selected a restaurant writing box so they can make menus and add prices along with guest checks for their customers. I chose a pretend and play mailbox, a doctor set and a pretend vet center which is great way to boost early printing skills and build community awareness. I also picked a comfy couch, house cleaning set and multicultural food set to add the center to make it feel like a real home center.
