In Arizona, I work with sophomores in a suburban-rural setting. One of the greatest challenges I face is helping them to see reading not as a thing to be dreaded, but a tool to awaken their minds and imaginations. Competing with the technological media of the 21st century, I have to work very creatively to help them see the value and joy reading can bring.
These children are bright, engaged, and ready to absorb the world around them- however, in today's world many students view reading apathetically.
