Every learner in my Culinary Arts and Special Education class is unique. Their learning styles, characteristics, and modalities are different from one another. With the economic problems our country is experiencing now, most of my students have parents who have been laid off from work and are now facing home foreclosures or staying with foster parents. Our school is now faced with limited resources that they can provide to the teachers. Teaching with limited resources and materials can be very frustrating, especially if students want to engage in activities that allow them to explore and share concepts and ideas. As an educator, I am now challenged to look for resources in order to help my students. Using teaching methods that take into consideration the students' learning styles can increase achievement and participation. By meeting these needs, I am sure to create an environment that promotes an ingredient for effective education-student involvement.
