My students are 7th and 8th graders. Minority groups are the majority here, which offers a great opportunity to experience diversity. We have students that speak several different languages and many come from non-English speaking families, which create barriers. Many of my students have a goal of attending college, which would make them the first in their family to attend. Due to lack of resources and language barriers, reading is a struggle for many of my students. I work hard to find books that will engage them so they will find joy in reading, which will in turn improve their skills. Reading is so important for all aspects of the future, and with no budget for books, it is difficult to provide them with the books they need and want.
