My Oak Cliff special education behavioral classroom serves 6th-8th grade students with autism, ADHD, intellectual disabilities, and emotional disorders. These resilient 11-14 year olds face adolescence, disability, and economic hardship in our low-income Dallas community. Many experience food insecurity and limited mental health access, intensifying behavioral difficulties. Despite obstacles, my students are creative problem-solvers, loyal friends, and eager learners with rich cultural perspectives. I implement individualized behavior plans, teach emotional regulation, provide crisis support, and create safe learning environments. With proper sensory tools, technology, books, arts supplies, and behavioral supports, these students transform remarkably. Academic engagement increases, behavioral incidents decrease, and self-confidence blooms proving every student can thrive regardless of circumstances.
