I work in a high poverty school and wouldn't trade it for anything! Many students in my school are responsible for walking themselves to school. A lot of students at my school also spend time taking care of their younger siblings. When they come into my classroom, I want them to feel loved and safe. They need to feel that someone is invested in their future and someone cares deeply about them. I celebrate their successes and bear their burdens, as is my duty as their teacher. My students are so grateful for anything they are given and they deserve all we can give!
