In Mississippi we are under battle. A battle to educate students that will be productive members of society and can take care of themselves without government assistance. Most days I feel like I am losing the battle because I am unable to either relate or find ways of relating history to their present day lives. They are not the only ones who struggle with drugs, gangs, and the internal struggle to stay above water, many before them have gone through and won their battles. I want my children to be able to do the same and what better way for them to know that they are not alone than to be able to read a book with their story. My kids are the future of America, and I would be doing them a huge injustice if I did not prepare them for what is in store for them. What better way to motivate and encourage than a good page-turning book.
