The variety of materials will make a difference in our students' learning in many ways. Our PE classroom is outside, therefore we do not have a lot of technology we can implement into our curriculum. Adding stop watches, pedometer pouches and heart rate monitors will help us incorporate technology into our lessons as well as include cross curricular subjects. Students will use the stop watches during lessons to time each other as they participate in different athletic challenges, heart rate monitors will be used to talk about what happens to your body when you are exercising as well as discussing moderate vs. vigorous activity. We have annual school wide fitness competitions at our school and would like to be able to award our top contestants with medals for their hard work and achievement. A jump rope competition and hula hoop competition is held each year. The best jump roper and hula hooper in each class is invited to the final competition where they compete for the highest level. This brings a lot of excitement to our students and they look forward to it each year. Nutrition is a big unit in our curriculum. We are asking for bean bags that have pictures of food on them with coordinating colors of My Plate so that we may participate in more hands on activities involving nutrition. Our students learn best with hands on manipulatives. Activities like categorizing food into proper food groups and creating a balanced meal as well as a food group scavenger hunt will be some of the activities we will be able implement.
