We are a Title 1 and Renaissance school that is 95% free or reduced lunch. Most students come from low socioeconomic households and do not have many of the supplies that would benefit them at home. We have a high population of English Language Learners who need extra support to reach their grade level standards, while learning a new language. Many students start the school year well below grade level in most subjects, especially reading. It is a constant fight to make up for lost time, and get each student to reach their full potential. Reading can seem very negative to these students if it is something they have struggled with for the majority of their academic career, and it is so important to replace these negative thoughts about reading with positive ones.
