My students are five and six year old boys and girls who reside in a community that is plagued with drugs, violence, poverty, crime, and abuse. Many of my students walk through the doors carrying heavy burdens and are unprepared for the learning that will take place. I have decided to take action to ensure that all students have their basic supplies needed to learn. Kindergarten provides the foundation for the rest of a child' life. My students are just like any other students when it comes to learning. Although their emotional burdens may be more than some students they have learned to become resilient and successful lifetime learners. Our school is a public, Title I school and serves over 1,000 students. We have eight sections of kindergarten (over 170 kindergrtners) which includes one self-contained special needs class.
