The first word that comes to my mind when I think of these kids is: Creative. They challenge me everyday to connect the curriculum with art to make it real for them. They strive for ways to take what they've learned at school and apply it at home. But because of socioeconomic status many students cannot bring needed supplies or even snacks. When basic needs aren't met learning doesn't take place (Maslow's hierarchy of needs). Too often kids come in worried if they will get breakfast or a snack. As their teacher they look to me to solve those needs. I cannot do it alone. It takes a village to raise a child, and I need a village to help me raise up our future leaders. Are you willing?
