Our school is located in a large urban school district with a high poverty rate. My small staff sells ads to fund printing our school newspaper and even works to pay their own way to a summer journalism conference. Neither funding nor equipment comes from the school or from the district to support our fledging journalism program. My student newspaper staffers are truly interested in careers in journalism and photojournalism.
