I teach mathematics in a public high school in the District of Columbia. My school is a great, inner-city public high school. About 40% of the students qualify for reduced or free lunch. I teach primarily 9th graders in Algebra 1 and seniors in pre-calculus. There is much that is wrong about the public schools in the District of Columbia. But none of what is wrong is the fault of its students. My students come to school every day ready to learn. Their parents send them to our school trusting us to educate their children well. This grant can help level the playing field.
