I have 18 students who are first graders. They are evenly split by gender. They all come from low income backgrounds. Most of them live in the neighborhood of the school. About half of the students are of average academic achievement level. There are three advanced students, one of which goes to CLUE; the advanced classes in our district. The remainder struggle with reading, writing and math. This projects is designed to afford more opportunities for the middle group to advance and the lower group to get up to grade level expectations.
