My kids are from a high poverty school in Florida but let me tell you they work hard and they are motivated to learn. They want to learn! We have a couple of motto's in our classroom that the students remind each other and myself as well. The first is "Everyone tries!" and "Please, don't waste our learning time." Just in case we have someone not making good choices. We really have developed a sense of our own little classroom family and no matter how tough their lives may be at home they know they are always safe at school.
