Kindergarteners needs lots of variety and choices to help them take control of their learning. During small group rotations in Math and Reading time, students need the opportunity to move freely around the classroom. At this time my students are using wiggle chairs, window seats and clip boards, and standing desks to complete their independent work. I have noticed a HUGE difference in their work as well as their behavior. They are excited to choose their work spaces and remain on task longer. They are making good choices as to where and who to sit by, remain more engaged in the activities, and have a higher percentage of work completion. The Items I selected are to enhance our classroom and offer the students more variety. For a while now, many of my students lay on the hard floor for journal writing. Yoga mats allow for the little learners to stretch out on the floor with more comfort while writing and coloring in journals. Or students can find a cozy corner with pillows and a lap tray to complete a Math activity. All of these items allow for additional seating and choices for my students to utilize through-out the school day. I have noticed how beneficial flexible seating is my classroom for my little learners and I hope to offer them more opportunities to do so.
