We live in a resort community with a very diverse student population. Although we have a few resort/motel owners, over 70% of our students are on reduced or free lunch. Many live in motels during the winter months, but have to move in spring when the tourists begin to come. Often there is a family of 5 in a one bedroom efficiency, or in a local campground. We have a growing population of children being raised by grandparents or other relatives. In addition, our non-English speaking population has increased the last few years with many of our students attending school in the United States for the first time.

About my class
