My students are English Language Learner elementary students from grades K through 5. Around 65-70% of them are from Latin-America, 25-30% are from Yemen, and the rest are from Africa, Bangladesh, Pakistan, and Vietnam. Most of my students come from working-class families. Some of them are from immigrant families, some are immigrants themselves, and some are refugees. All students bring with them a wealth of knowledge coming from their home cultures, countries, and backgrounds. All are highly capable of achieving great things in school. Having the items that they need to learn in my classroom will help them to learn more because they will provide the literature, tools, and environment that they need to succeed.
