I have a group of wonderful, but active 1st graders. It is important that I keep them involved and engaged continuously, or they become challenging. I am the ESE inclusion room, so differentiating is very important in my room. I do this with small, continually changing groups, driven by the data, and meeting one on one for Tier 3 support. However, we do still have times that whole group instruction is necessary. I know that it would be much more effective if students were able to join me on the floor, in close proximity, getting to interact, both verbally and kinetically with the lesson, be it reading or math. Doing whole group from from their desks makes it almost impossible to keep all students engaged throughout. I continue to try the methods I know to be best practices, however, with my group, I know meeting together on the floor would be more effective.
