Our Kindergarten LEGO Simple Machines club strives to expose children to STEM activities at an early age. Children will have the opportunity to make and create simple machines (windmills, cars with gears that go, seesaws and more that allow children to begin exploring engineering and design! Not only will this have the opportunity for children to design and create, but we will fold in a layer of writing that will allow children to create a story about their invention or to write a procedural piece of writing to explain how they made their invention. Children will have the opportunity to look at the "grand scheme" of learning by building in many different areas of learning to integrate and apply skills instead of learning skills exclusively in isolation! This project will also fund TWO classrooms! I work closely with Kindergarten, and we are using this funding to pilot this program in two classrooms to allow it to further expand after we have demonstrated its opportunities and strengths!
