I teach middle school in a low income, urban district in Connecticut. Many students and adults struggle in math class. As part of UCONN's Noyce Fellowship Program I completed two courses which introduced Building Thinking Classroom pedagogy. There will be a learning curve for students as they will be working on highly engaging tasks in groups, standing up on individual whiteboard space. This will teach students collaboration instead of mimicking a procedure I teach them. As a teacher, I strive to provide a welcoming, comfortable environment for my students, especially because oftentimes they come to math class with fear and anxiety. I build strong relationships with my students and strive to provide my students with materials they need to be successful.
