Our FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC) Team is based in Sharon, PA. This is a former steel town. Our mission is to make FRC and STEM accessible to students in our community as we grow as a team. We will continue our global and local outreach efforts and keep our team attainable for all students. We know the requested items will not only serve the current team, but will serve our community for several years to come. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we would like to purchase some PPE and a set of most frequently used tools for every student and coach to use without sharing between students. Hence, we have requested a particular allen key, wrench size, gloves and safety glasses. This equipment is critical to meeting in person as a team this upcoming season. In addition, we are requesting one team laptop. The one provided by FIRST last year is not working properly and not capable of running the software we need for CAD design and advanced programming. This is limiting what we can achieve as a team. Therefore, we would like to invest in a better laptop for our programmers and drive team to use. We also chose a joystick that would work with the laptop as we only have one from FIRST, but would like one for each of the two drivers. As a beginner team with limited resources, and still learning mechanical skills, the proper technology will allow us to stay competitive and focus on skills we can learn remotely this year (e.g. vision processing and machine learning). If funding is limited, our priority is getting the team a new laptop since this will expand our capabilities the most. The tools per student (wrench and allen keys) would be next.
