My students are fifth graders getting ready for middle school. We are a low-socioeconomic school located in a small, established, but growing city with a diverse population moving in. Many of the newer students moving to the school are English language challenged or a year older due to retention and are in need of intense reading intervention. The students are motivated to learn, but materials are hard to come by. Much time is spent scouring the internet for activities, but the expense of making copies at school prohibits too much of this type of printing. My students are in need of concrete materials which they may write in and use the reading strategies being taught. It is hard on the students to see a clean copy, but not being allowed to write on it (so it can be used again next year).
