My goal is to create a student centered atmosphere where children intrinsically choose to visit. My students do not have access to public transportation, parks, retail stores and other amenities. At EWMS students are free to visit the library during lunch or at their teachers discretion throughout the day. During Innovation Time, students are free to bring their lunch, self-select a book, read, or get help with homework. They may also chat with friends, play board games, or interact with the robots, magnet wall or Lego wall. During instruction time, student come in for scheduled classes with their teacher. I teach them research skills such as how to use databases, apps, Websites, and technology across the curriculum. As students make the choice to visit the library during middle school and have positive experiences during their time with me, I hope "my kids" will continue visiting libraries throughout their lives.
