Our school is a public, K-8, high poverty school in Florida. Over 60% of our students receive free or reduced lunch. My students are struggling readers that are at risk for not passing standardized tests and potentially dropping out of school. Many of my students will not take the initiative to read on their own and dread the word "reading". Hearing them get excited about The Hunger Games is exhilarating because I feel like I now have a way to teach them through a book and hold their attention!
