Our bilingual students from the Queens, NY area have been impacted by the pandemic. We noticed a great increase in the usage of the Spanish language within the home due to more exposure to their family. Our school has a surplus of bilingual students who require bilingual speech and language services. We are a big department who serves not only our children but their families as well. Our parents are very grateful when they are able to communicate with staff when they speak a common language. It is difficult being a child who has a learning disability and is also learning how to communicate in two languages. Our speech therapy sessions incorporate leadership with culture and we hope that donors see this as well.
