Our school has been experiencing an increase in ELL students. We currently have 52% of our population identified as ELL. I work with small groups giving intensive instruction beyond their regular classrooms. My students are immigrants from Somalia, Congo, Djibouti, Iraq, El Salvador and Rwanda, all are just learning the English language. I have had tremendous success teaching them rhyming songs such as "Hey Diddle Diddle" and "Wheels On the Bus" just to name a few. They seem to catch on to the rhythm of the English Language in the songs. They feel more confident in speaking through the songs and they are able to say many more words through the songs then if they were just speaking. Having the center and the accompanying books with the visuals would help them associate the words to the pictures.
