First, many students don't have the at-home resources available to complete projects that enrich their in-class learning. Second, in-class source materials are limited by the school's budgetary constraints as well. Even when some research items may be available on line, there are times when huddling around "old-fashioned books and maps" are irreplaceable learning experiences. The items requested will be used to provide hands-on activities and additional research documents, which will allow students to connect to our curriculum in meaningful, personal, artistic ways. A few items, like the poster of a fake Lincoln quote, serve as reminders as they dive into their research, while others are awards that will serve as motivational incentives. The scope of our subject is U.S. history from reconstruction to the present, with multiple proposed resources to support topics that particularly draw students into history (e.g., the 1920s, WWI, WWII, civil rights).
