These materials will help students to maximize learning through choice, self-care, self-advocacy, and self-awareness. Our site has several students who are struggling to readjust to a "traditional" school setting. Many of my students have experienced challenges readjusting to school routines, and learning grit due to distance learning from home and will benefit from a classroom that allows structured choice to nurture independent and supported academic and social-emotional growth. By setting up a "Self Care Space" that will include bean bag chairs, a variety of fidgets, coloring pages, timers, feeling guide posters, and journaling materials, students will be able to reset emotionally, with guidance and support, to then refocus on their academic learning. These materials will allow not only serve the resource students on my caseload but other classroom students as well. Students will benefit from alternative seating options, a self-care space, and positive behavior reinforcements as they grow and learn. It is my plan and wish to share many of these resources with general education classroom teachers to benefit students who are not on my specific caseload but in need of resource support.
