Activating prior knowledge is crucial in education, and honestly this is an area where my students need improvement. If you have no background knowledge on certain topics, understanding reading materials will be harder to grasp. My goal is to provide my students with engaging content to want them to learn more, and understand that there is more to read and learn about than what we have in our textbooks. With these publications we will be enhancing our vocabulary skills, creating KWL charts to compare our goals, highlighting text features, and writing informational essays from these sources. I want my students to be able to hold meaningful accountable talks based on their readings. Receiving these magazines will do wonders in my class! For the fiction novels, these books will be used for a novel study. While informational text is important, learning the elements of a story is important too! Like anything I teach these stories will be followed with writing prompts and exposing my students to different types of genres.
