Sensory items are one of the key items used to keep my students on task, calm, and happy. Bouncing on a ball relieves the wiggles and built up energy they have a hard time holding in. Watching glitter flow through a tube is sometimes just enough to find them calm and at peace. Inclusive classrooms support the abilities and recognize the possibilities of all students. A rug to go to, to take a break or socialize with friends keeps learning possible. Learning isn't always the curriculum, socializing with friends and learning how to be apart of a group is just as important. I want my students to grow and learn together and not just from their desks.
