I work in a Title I school serving families with low income. Our families struggle to keep food on the table for all family members. Students often have to share items with their siblings, not having enough for everyone to be satisfied. A vast majority of our students rely on school for daily breakfast and lunch. Some of our students are still hungry after eating their breakfast or after eating their lunch. When a student is hungry, they tend to get angry and lose focus on the lesson in the classroom. Students will distract other students from learning, causing arguments within the classroom. The staff can only provide snacks to students when available. My goal is to have a closet full of snacks to provide for students when they get hungry. My ultimate goal is for students to have the hunger to learn because their hunger for food has been satisfied.
