The materials that I am requesting will assist students with a deeper knowledge, not only of literary skills, but with history. Pairing a fiction story with a non-fiction text about an event in history, provides hooks for students' learning. Also with choosing more difficult texts it will challenge my already high learners, and continue their growth which can often plateau if not challenged properly. With dwindling times focused solely on Social Studies, these text will allow history to be taught and discussed in smaller groups, and incorporate a strong reading focus as well.
