As a first year teacher I do not have access to many different resources. Due to the demographic area I teach in, a majority of my students to not have books at home. Without access to any type of literature, many of my students are yearning for connection with characters and places in their stories. I desire for my students to see themselves in a story and be encouraged that they are not alone. These books will be used in lessons each day, as well as students independent reading time. There are instances where we read books as a class for a specific purpose, such as finding the theme or important details. With the books I have chosen the students will be able to achieve their academic standards while also enjoying the books they are reading and finding joy in it.
