I teach middle school special needs reading and language. These students come into my classroom often not knowing how to read 3 letter words. We work rigorously on basic reading skills when they enter my classroom as a sixth grader. By the time they reach seventh and eighth grade, they are ready to be challenged with more intense reading skills. These leveled readers will help me to meet the needs of my students where they are at individually. The different grade levels will reach each student and grow as they grow. Most of my curriculum has been based on elementary library books and online resources that I have purchased. I would like to have tangible resources in my students' hands. Most of my students learn best when they are able to see and touch their resources, which has not always been possible in my classroom. These leveled readers will give them a variety of skills to choose from, which will make them feel more in control of their learning.
