My students come from very diverse backgrounds, but are generally united by a lack of world connectedness, whether it is a lack of experiences (places, things to do) or a lack of generalized skills (for jobs in white collar or professional futures). The tools I've chosen primarily focus on communication and connection to a larger world, and can be used even with restrictions in place due to COVID. In Latin class, we don't get too many chances to experience places related to our target culture, but an Oculus setup could make any field trip possible remotely. COVID 19 has made what few opportunities we had nearly impossible due to restrictions on destinations and the lack of bus drivers. I'd like my students to get a better feeling for what walking through the forum or attending a gladiator match would feel like. Further, museum visits and volcanic eruptions could be almost close enough to touch. Further, I've requested a multiple of technology tools to better acquaint my students with methods of communication, advertisement, and presentation beyond texting. Digital notebooks, OCR scanners, and even an electronic sign can be used to gather information, collect group notes, and build impressive presentations in the manner of business executives. By digitizing sources and presentation, students are better able to work remotely as part of a group.
