Exploration of the many sensory opportunities within our world greatly impacts our students learning experiences. A light table would enhance my ability to bring shapes, colors, textures, and a variety of stem learning opportunities to my students. This grant would allow my students to discover the wonders of math, science, manipulatives, sensory input, social-emotional regulation, teamwork and so much more! These materials would capture the attention of my students in an educational capacity under the guise of playtime and friendships. The Covid-19 pandemic has affected my students in ways I cannot even begin to express. My Kindergarten students have never known a "typical" school experience like their older counterparts. Their school experience has been riddled with shut downs, virtual schooling, and quarantines. Some of them are outside the classroom for upwards of 2-3 weeks at a time to ensure the safety of everyone around us. I want to bring play and discovery back into my classroom to counteract the stress of the world around them and normalize their school experience. They deserve to be able to explore and learn through play within a fun and sensory filled atmosphere. This light table and the manipulative sets would do just that!
