Teaching students with intellectual disabilities requires lots of flexibility. Many students are unable to focus on learning due to fidgeting which can be distracting in the learning environment. Flexible seating will provide my students with the opportunity to focus on their learning, but also fidget without being a huge distraction to the rest of the class. Students being able to wiggle and wobble in their seats will help them stay seated and ensure that they are able to calm themselves while paying attention to their learning. Self-regulation is an important skill for all learners.
