I have come into this second grade classroom in the middle of the year. I have 20 students and many are below reading level because they are English Language Learners. An entire year of virtual learning, during the pandemic didn’t help either. My classroom library is full of chapter books that are above grade level and certainty not at their independent reading level. My students love to read and pull books from the classroom library and would benefit so much if they were given the opportunity to choose books they could read and feel successful with. Good readers become great readers by reading!
