Students will be able to investigate momentum by allowing them to crash carts into each other. The students will measure the momentum going into the collision and compare it with the final momentum. The carts will also help students see Newton's three laws on motion in action. The students will use the pendulums to see that potential energy is converted to kinetic energy and back into potential energy. I want students to see the loss of energy with each successive pass. The Pendulum will allow students to experience this for themselves. By doing hands-on investigations, students make deeper connections and remember the big concepts of physics because they have experienced the concept for themselves.
