During the pandemic, my Kindergarten students have been home more than ever. Students have had many setbacks in their education due to the multiple quarantines, virtual learning, and illness. There are many gaps in their language, math, and fine motor skills. Now that we are back in school, we are working hard to fill those gaps. My students are very active learners who enjoy hands-on activities. They are creative, inquisitive, and have enthusiasm for all things. The language and math manipulatives in this project will increase my students' fine motor skills as well as give them extra practice in language and math while they are playing in centers. The easel will be used in a variety of ways. I plan to use it during whole group instruction as well as small group and center time. Many of the manipulatives are magnetic. During centers, students can practice building sight words, making sentences, practice their daily math, and practice handwriting. Young children learn best through play and the items I have chosen will be used to increase their language and math skills. The items will help students collaborate and learn from one another. My goal is to create active learners. To be successful in first grade, students must have a strong foundation in reading and math. The manipulatives and other items can meet those needs in a Kindergarten classroom.
