My students are wonderful readers. Through consulting with my fellow educators, the school librarian, and my students I have decided to choose books that are contemporary and diverse. My goal is that my students may see themselves, or members of their family, within the diverse books. It is important to me as an educator that my students want to read and are passionate about reading and I am confident that if my students were to see more of themselves in a book and be able to relate to the plot of the book, they would be much more compelled to pick up a book!
