STEM projects allow students to grow academically, socially, and emotionally. Students learn to interact with each other in socially accepted ways. Stem allows them to use their critical thinking skills to solve problems. Being interested in solving the problem helps with participation and understanding. My students see stem as play instead of learning which allows me to hold their attention longer, which allows us to dive into a deeper understanding.
The items I have selected will help my students social-emotional development, will help with life skills, and academic skills. I have noticed over the last few years that some children have not even developed basic life skills such as tying shoes. By being able to bring more STEM activities into the classroom we will be able to reach many skills all in one lesson. An organized classroom is more welcoming and calming, which are two things students need at this time. Also flexible seating allows the students to work in different areas on different projects allowing them to feel more in control of their environment and situation. A new magnetic whiteboard will allow us to discuss STEM projects as a whole group better, give more area to discuss larger projects, and help me teach students on a daily basis. I just want to be able to see my students continue to grow and strive to reach challenges.
