My students need practice, practice, practice using the phonics reading skills they are taught in my classroom. Decodable texts give them more needed opportunities to experience success reading words they have been taught in my lessons. These readers give my students the chance to sound out words rather than looking at pictures and guessing. To be successful readers, they need to engage with texts that allow them to repeatedly draw on previously taught phonics skills. Success is what I work for and dream of for my students. To achieve that success, my students' brains require much more practice than the average student. These phonics readers will help to provide that extra time engaged in reading practice that is so necessary.
