With the ever-changing digital world, it is crucial that students are immersed in innovative technology on all levels. Currently, my classroom lacks technology components and in order to implement best practices to students a hands-on component would be beneficial. By adding a recording station students develop critical thinking skills that require students to evaluate and predict the impact of the message on the audience, and how the impact shapes the message. With the addition of easy, non-intimidating recording stations, students will stimulate growth on both sides of the brain. Students who are engaged with their hands and their minds, they actually are more focused and motivated to learn. This recording station will allow us to summarize argumentative writing, present original poems, record breaking school events and learn how to manage various social media outlets. My target population will be the 6th, 7th and 8th grade students in my class. However the material can be used throughout the school for sports documentaries, recruitment videos, college application videos and more. In addition, our small campus allows us to share materials easily with the special education team in order to reinforce content for older learners. As a result of a hands-on, digital learning station, students can increase their understanding technology while increasing their knowledge of digital citizenship. Students will also engage in critical thinking, communication and collaboration skills that can be utilized throughout their learning experience.
