These books will be used (and loved) in a 6-8 grade resource classroom so that special education students will be able to enjoy books at their individual academic levels. These students come from limited-income households where books are luxury items. My students love curling up with a big fluffy pillow enjoying a good book, and they feel so accomplished! Checking out books, when available in the school library, can lead to embarrassment when their non-disabled, same-grade peers may read at an academically higher level, which may discourage them from reading. Encouraging reading through their own classroom library will increase their comprehension, allowing them to become more successful in all their academic endeavors!
