All students are excited when they can accomplish something new! First grade is a time when students transition from learning how to read, to reading to learn as they prepare for the next level. The guided reading leveled book sets will give each leveled reader an opportunity to "tap in" and begin where they are. Many students entered the first grade with a need for more time to transition academically. The need to bridge the gap is because of the disruption the pandemic has had on instruction. Having this book set will help my students look forward to independent reading time, build connections with the stories and characters they read, and decrease the level of fear they may have associated with reading. My students love it when I read to them, and they love to read to me, but it is important that they have that same feeling towards reading independently. A student's ability the feel confident in their reading can strongly impact their connection to learning across all subjects. I've taught my students to connect a feeling or reason to every they learn and let it take them as far as it can. The learning material listed will help me execute individualized action plans for my students. The reading comprehension practice cards will help my students connect to what they read. Students will use the practice cards during BUILD centers to help them strengthen their ability to unpack what they read using a collection of comprehension skills. The other sound learning materials listed will also be used during BUILD centers, and it will require students to utilize the skills taught during FUNdations to tap and blend a word. The materials listed will work together to strengthen my student's ability to read and comprehend.
