I chose several diverse books for my students as my students are diverse in religion, ethnicity, and culture. My students need books that can connect to their lived experiences as well as to learn about other cultures. This will not only encourage them to read but also help them achieve literacy as their reading levels have lowered due to the students being virtual or quarantined during the COVID- 19 Pandemic.
I chose the More Than Peach Educator Bundle because of colored pencils of various shades that my students can use to draw accurate representations of themselves. My students love to draw, but since their skin colors are unique, they struggle with finding the right shades that fit them. This will help my students' overall wellbeing in light of the COVID-19 Pandemic as it will allow the students to express themselves in a more genuine way that was not available to them during their days away from school.
Pencils were also added as my students are beginning writers and are learning how to go through the writing process to become exceptional essay writers. During the light of the COVID- 19 Pandemic, my students spent much time on Chromebooks and tablets to where their handwriting is struggling. Now that we are halfway into the school year, we are using many pencils to practice our essay skills, and learning how to not only form complete sentences but to use them in good writing practices.
